Factors you should consider when working out of the office

COVID-19 has changed the way we run our businesses. The term “business as usual” no longer exists. Businesses have been made to operate from home, which means that data privacy and security should be the first thought for every company.

Here are top factors you should consider to keep your data secure and private when working from home:

  1. Protecting digital data may be more difficult than you think, so have appropriate policies and procedures in place
  2. Risk assessment, data integrity and availability are important
  3. Frequent security updates are essential
  4. Make sure you change default Wi-Fi passwords
  5. Data encryption and strong passwords can help you protect your business
  6. Enable two-factor authentication
  7. Add VPN on phones
  8. GDPR/Data Protection Act regulations can play a key role in data safety; in data you collect, hold, process and share
  9. Attend Free Friday sessions
  10. Offer staff training
  11. Stay vigilant!

Now we are all locked down and having to work from home, you need to know how to keep your data safe. Talk to us if you need any advice, guidance or support.

We have put together a series of online seminars (Free Fridays) simply because we want you to work effectively out of the office and think about your business data, to make sure it is private and secure! These interactive and practical seminars are run by our CIO Clive Catton who has special responsibility for data privacy and security at Octagon Technology. These sessions provide vital help and guidance to businesses and their staff working from home. Here is what two of the attendees have said:

“Clive presented another excellent webinar around issues to consider in terms of working from home regarding IT & information security. His friendly balanced approach makes the risks easy to understand & relate to whilst offering practical tips on how to mitigate or prevent them without the need to go overboard with project fear” – Tony Smith, Genius Technology Solutions.

“As always Clive shared his experience in an accessible and relevant way, to help less tech-savvy people through the maze of what to do for the best.  And most importantly his information is current and based on the solid practice that Octagon has built up over the years” – Sue Daly, Resolutions for Change.

Next week’s seminar will be run on Friday 15th May at 11am and will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Clive will be talking about different tools for effective working from home. Want to join us online? Email me [email protected] and I will add you to my list.
