Clive’s weekly Cyber Security roundup – 3 June 2022

Sorry it is a little late this week as I took the Bank Holiday off – well nearly there were some posts on Smart Thinking.

Let’s start with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we got a four day weekend and it was an excuse for me to run some technology stories from 1952:

Platinum Jubilee Technology – Smart Thinking Solutions

It is nice to start with a happy story for a change!

Now for the serious stuff – you must read the articles about the vulnerability in Microsoft Word macros, “Follina” – that activates even if macros are disabled! The is no patch just advice on how to deal with the problem.

Zero-day threat using Microsoft Office documents – even if macros are disabled – it’s called Follina – Smart Thinking Solutions

I updated the Russia Ukraine Conflict advice last week – if you have not caught with it yet, you should. The malware involved in the conflict is starting to be discovered outside the conflict zone. Make sure you have at least taken the basic protection steps.

Many of the stories from last week are about the various forms and threats that ransomware takes and how it could impact your organisation – I have published a short article that describes three essential steps you need to have completed to protect your organisation from ransomware.

The weekend reads are proving to be very popular. The content is varied from in depth articles about cybersecurity, to more general technology stories and even radio programmes. This weekend there is a post to a YouTube talk about Public-Interest Technologists.

Clive Catton MSc (Cyber Security) by-line and other articles

This is a weekly round-up of the articles from Smart Thinking Solutions, our specialist cybersecurity, governance and compliance web site.

The articles are mostly quick reads to give you an overview of the cybersecurity threat landscape facing businesses today, with links to the sources. Many of the posts have action points or top tips to help you navigate these threats to your organisations.

Sometimes they are just there to make you smile!
